About
Puffin Cruises

Set sail with us for an unforgettable wildlife adventure around Coquet Island, one of the North East’s most magical coastal treasures. Right now the island is bursting with life — thousands of colourful puffins swooping overhead, diving for fish, and nesting in huge, spectacular colonies. And of course, the ever charming grey seals lounging on the rocks or popping up beside the boat to say hello.

Our Puffin Cruises Pod is open daily, so come down, chat with the crew, and explore our range of trips:
• 1 Hour Puffin Cruises — a close up look at Coquet Island’s thriving puffin population
• Seal Watching Cruises — meet the island’s playful and curious seal colonies

Every sailing is shaped by the tides and sea conditions, ensuring the safest and most enjoyable experience on the water.
Because we love Puffins

Welcome to Dave Gray’s Puffin Cruises — the legendary family‑run voyage that has carried explorers, wildlife lovers, and curious travellers from the dock steps of Amble Harbour to the wild waters around Coquet Island for over 40 unforgettable years.

As seen on TV on Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes, this is far more than a boat trip — it’s an immersion into one of Britain’s most breathtaking natural spectacles

Just a mile offshore rises Coquet Island, a rugged sanctuary teeming with life. Each summer, its cliffs and grassy slopes erupt into a frenzy of wings and colour as more than 40,000 seabirds return to nest. Here, you’ll witness:

Puffins bursting from their burrows like tiny, determined rockets

Rare Roseate Terns — the jewel of the island, elegant and fiercely protected

Sandwich, Common & Arctic Terns slicing through the air with razor‑sharp precision

Kittiwakes calling from the ledges

Eider Ducks bobbing gently on the tide

And guarding the island year‑round, the grey seal colony basks on the eastern rocks — curious, watchful, and often just metres from the boat.

Aboard our two vessels, you’ll feel the salt on your skin, the wind in your hair, and the thrill of witnessing one of the UK’s richest marine ecosystems up close.

Guided by skippers Dave & Steven, this is the North East coast at its wildest and most breathtaking.
